We started in the North rim and the climb back was miserable. Haha
While climbing in the dark we would see our friend’s headlamps going up in the skies in an ever end climb...
Great job!Wanderley Reishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05582241810047174918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1245249781884723223.post-56514944718078361742020-08-18T11:23:12.957-04:002020-08-18T11:23:12.957-04:00John, I hadn't checked the blog in a while and...John, I hadn't checked the blog in a while and just saw this one. Great write up, as always. One of those experiences in life you just don't forget.

I had to laugh at a couple of the things you wrote..namely that section near the North Rim that is MAYBE 3 feet wide with that straight drop off on the one side. I remember hitting that point, thinking to myself "just stare at the ground" but then when I tried that, out of my peripheral vision, all I saw on the one side was literally nothing and it freaked me out. I resorted to the "hug the wall technique" for those maybe 200 yards.

The second one was the advice of the water, because I too made that "rookie" mistake. I did the hike/run/walk in much hotter weather and failed to fill up when I could...well, this almost ended disastrously as I was on that long, mostly flat bottom section coming from the North Rim...I didn't fill up at one station since I thought had enough...low and behold, the next pump was broken. I was able to make it until about 2 miles before the Ranch before running out. It was probably close to 100 in that section...Thankfully, a hiker, doing what hikers do, saw me in need, gave me a good amount of his water and we went our separate ways.

I would love to get back in the cooler weather and see the canyon with snow.Jonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1245249781884723223.post-65653310817870400682020-06-14T05:50:58.033-04:002020-06-14T05:50:58.033-04:00Love it :-) thanks for posting Love it :-) thanks for posting Jakenoreply@blogger.com
