Barkley Marathons 2012 - I Did It

Well my soul search and personal journey is over.  I am humbled by the sheer magnitude of what I was privileged to take part in.  There are so many things I want to write down about my experience but the sleep deprivation has made them all cluttered and cloudy.  I will hopefully post a coherent race report soon.

I am extremely honored to share the small stage with the 11 other Barkley finishers, and I hope to do them proud. Touching that gate at the end of lap five was like touching the Mt. Katahdin or PCT terminus signs.  So incredible.

This year:
Three 100 mile finishers (A Barkley First!):
Brett Maune (First Repeat Finisher!) : 52:03
Jared Campbell (Another Blazing Time!) : 56:00
John Fegyveresi : 59:41

...and yes.  I cut it a little close.

There were also 6 fun-run finishers:
Alan Abbs
Beverly Anderson-Abbs (first woman since 2001)
Nick Hollon
Travis Wildeboer
Robert Youngren

Full Stats on Matt Mahoney's Barkley Site:  The Barkley Marathons

I'll post a full report soon, once I've slept a bit.  I did not sleep at all during the entire 60 hours.

Fantastic job, Lakewood. I'm looking forward to the honor of watching your tail-lights quickly disappear at Massanutten. :-)

Wow! Simply wow. Your cousin April told me about this. I am in awe. Having run my first ultra last September, Barkley seems absolutely impossible! Congrats!

Truly amazing, John! I've hiked along the Barkley course. I have no idea how you did 5 laps of that! I say again, amazing!

Congrats! You must be thrilled in a very exhausted sort of way.

When I saw that you were competing, I figured that you would probably do very well with your long hike experience. Looks like everything came together well.

Great, great work!

I don't think we've ever met, we may have some mutual friends, but I was rooting for you, as the few emails made it out of FHSP.

There was an email "a headlamp has been spotted" and my, I was so happy for you.

Can't wait to read the full report.
